In a breaking news shocker, Deadline is reporting that Sasha Calle has been cast as Supergirl. The Young & The Restless actor will play the role in the upcoming The Flash film which just began shooting.
Michael Keaton’s Batman, along with Ben Affleck’s Batman are already slated to appear. The Flash film is shaping up to be a wild departure from previous DC films. Details about how Supergirl fits into the larger narrative is as yet unknown. It is also unknown if she will ever get the chance to interact with Henry Cavill’s Superman.
Calle was part of a casting call that went down similarly to the way Zack Snyder thrust Gal Gadot into the spotlight. Depending on how Calle adapts to this role, she may have a similar path to stardom. Andy Muschietti, who directed the popular It remake films, has a great eye for talent. He was apparently blown away by Calle in the Zoom call script reads.
Now that Calle is the first Latina actress to play a mainstream superhero, expect to hear the usual griping from the usual suspects. The fact remains, Calle won the role over 426 other actors. We owe it to her and the director to see how things pan out.
