It’s Spring Anime Season once again! One of the most anticipated season drops of the anime year besides the Fall season. Below is my list of the five anime that I feel are the most anticipated of the season. Once you roll through the list, lets converse on the Blue Bird app.
The Rising of The Shield Hero – Season Two
Naofumi the Shield Hero returns with his companions Raphtalia and Filo! The follow-up to the popular anime that debuted in Winter 2019, this season will cover the events in the Spirit Turtle Arc. The Four Heroes are tasked with investigating the mysterious attacks happening around the world, while also undergoing training to increase their powers.
The guardian beast named the Spirit Tortoise is raging out of control and laying waste to all in his path, while fueling the other attacks around the world. Its up to Naofumi and his party to resolve the mystery surrounding the rampaging beast. I’ve patiently waited for this to come back for 2 years! One of the better Isekai anime out there without the typical overpowered hero trope as a base.
Komi-San Can’t Communicate – Season Two
This returning spring anime title was one of the most adorably cute series of last year! Komi-San Can’t Communicate became a sleeper hit pairing the ordinary looking Tadano Hitohito with the gorgeous beauty Komi. Komi has crippling social anxiety disorder, which renders her unable to speak in public and unable to communicate without a pencil and notebook in hand.
Komi is on a quest to gain 100 friends, which should be easy since everyone is in love with her…but her anxiety causes an endless amount of misunderstandings and unintentionally awkward moments. The quirky cast kept me laughing all last fall, and became my unexpected favorite. I’m super excited for it’s return this season.
Spy X Family
This spring anime title popped up on my radar a few months ago, and I immediately fell in love with it. This comedy series follows the exploits of super-spy Loid Folger who is tasked to infiltrate a prestigious prep-school to gain access to his next target. To accomplish this mission? He has to get married and have a kid. The kid he chooses, Anya, is a precocious orphan who happens to be an esper.
The wife, Yoru, is a government secretary by day and a deadly assassin by night. The three of them each have secrets they hide from one another, but each have their reasons for wanting to keep their little family together. This spring anime title could end up being the first best of the season. Don’t miss it!
Kaguya-Sama: Love is War – Ultra Romantic
The best high school love comedy anime is finally coming back! Kaguya-sama: Love Is War – Ultra Romantic is the third season of the popular Kaguya-sama series. It’s currently ranked as the 2nd most anticipated anime of the Spring anime season on MyAnimeList. It’s been two LOOOOONG years since the last season came out (see the previous write-up here). Recently the announcement was made that the manga is coming to an end soon, which is a shame.
Summer Time Render
There’s an appetite for mysterious/horror anime. Some hit and some miss. Based on the trailer alone, I anticipate Summer Time Render to keep my attention week to week. The synopsis goes like this: After his parents died, Shinpei Ajiro lived with the Kofune sisters, Mio and Ushio, but he has since moved to live on his own in Tokyo. But after Ushio drowns while trying to save the young Shiori Kobayakawa, he returns home to mourn her departure. However, bruises around Ushio’s neck bring her cause of death into question.
Some people see shades of Erased in this anime, but given my heavy load of comedy this season, I need something dramatic to balance it out. I just hope it fares better than The Princess of Blood & Snow did.
