Rurouni Kenshin, the popular 90’s shounen manga series, is getting a new TV anime project, as announced during Jump Festa 2022. Studio LIDENFILMS (Tokyo Revengers) will be animating the new series. Here’s the PV video promoting the new project:
The announcement was made during Jump Festa 2022. It’s unknown at this time if it’s a reboot of the original 1996 series or an adaptation of the sequel series “The Hokkaido Arc“. This Twitter post only confirmed that Liden Films would be working on it. Series creator Nobuhiro Watsuki was a highly regarded manga author until he was convicted of child pornography charges in February 2018. His wife and longtime assistant, Kaoru Kurosaki is involved with the project.
The series was adapted into a popular set of live action films, with the most recent entry releasing on Netflix in 2021. The manga was licensed by Viz Media in America.
