So here’s the deal: I’m not a fan of this movie’s name. For starters, its incredibly misleading: This title is a lazy attempt to placate fans of the actual Birds of Prey by pretending that this film is remotely about them or their journey to being the badass female crimefighting team that they are. There’s no Batgirl, who in her role as Oracle, founded The Birds of Prey with Black Canary long ago in the pre-Flashpoint DC Comics era. Were it up to me, this film would’ve simply be titled ‘The Fantabulous Emancipation of one Harley Quinn’. Long-winded sure, but it would’ve been pretty catchy in its own right, and would’ve helped lessen the feeling that the Birds of Prey name was being cheapened in some fashion.
Other than that, I’ve also not been blown away by the films promotional campaign, but then again, the name change might’ve helped with that. The posters and trailers have featured Harley most prominently…and that’s not an oddity, she’s a popular character, DC’s most popular female character not named Wonder Woman.
With that said, this trailer was probably the best one for the film they’ve done. The film might not be the big train-wreck I anticipate it to be, but at the least it does look like it might be an entertaining romp. We’ll see. What’s your take on the film’s final trailer?
