2014 has come and gone and I must say it was not that great. Lots of unfinished product and boat loads of DLC. So will 2015 be any better? Being the pessimistic gamer that I am says probably not. Maybe a little, but not by much. Here is what I’m expecting this year. First off- more re-releases of games. I’m not sure how this got so popular among us gaming folk- but developers with a large enough back catalog of games have certainly jumped on the bandwagon. This year expect to see DMC 4, DMC, Borderlands 2, and the pre-sequel. Majora’s mask on the 3DS, Suikoden 1&2, Resident Evil…again! The list goes on. Part of me wonders why there seems to be so much focus on bringing out older games- some that are not even 4 years old. Maybe it’s to tide folks over until all the triple A games that were supposed to be released last year were pushed into this year- who knows. Something else I expect to continue is over-hyped triple A games from top tier 3rd parties- like Ubisoft and EA- to come out and not even remotely live up to the expectations that the studios said their games would be. I expect most of these titles to come out with day one DLC, seasons passes, and bugs galore. That has become the standard now for most of these developers. Hopefully I’m proven wrong- but I highly doubt it. I personally expect possibly to be wowed by at least 3, maybe 5 games this year. Most will complain and mention that I’m just being to harsh- that last year wasn’t that bad. That this year things are going to change for the better. Sadly the truth is that as long these practices go unchecked, I expect the gaming industry to slowly turn toward a downward spiral.
