The King of Fighters: Destiny follows the story of Kyo Kusanagi, the descendant of the Kusanagi Clan. One of 3 houses charged with protecting 1 of 3 sacred artifacts that keep the demon Orochi from being unleashed upon and unsuspecting world. Kyo travels to South Town to accept the invitation to participate in the King of Fighters tournament. Along with Benimaru Nikaido, Goro Daimon, Ryo Sakazaki, Robert Garcia, and Yuri Sakazaki.

This anime is a direct retelling of the King of Fighters first story arc from the first 3 games. The King of Fighters game franchise spans over 2 decades of arcade and console games. The series started in 1994 on the Neo Geo and has been SNK’s most popular game franchise. The latest release of the game was last years The King of Fighters XIV, the 14th installment and the first one released since 2010.

This isn’t the first go-round for The King of Fighters in anime form. The franchise itself is a shared universe that is attached to both Fatal Fury and The Art of Fighting games, both of which have had OVA’s (Original Video Animation or direct-to-video). Fatal Fury is legendary to American anime audiences as Terry Bogard starred in 2 OVA’s and a feature-length production. The King of Fighters itself has had a 4 episode OVA, The King of Fighters: Another Day released back in 2005 in 4 10-minute animated shorts on the internet.

The first episode is attached here for your convenience. Watch it an let us know what you think in the comments below.
